Put all this together and you’ve got Banished by Sophie Littlefield. Banished is the story of Hailey, a poor girl in a rundown town that’s going nowhere fast. Then, long-lost Aunt Prairie shows up in town and Hailey’s world is turned upside down.
I was confused what was going on in the beginning. She can heal others. Some back-story maybe there was back-story later, I don’t know would be useful, especially since we are littlefied backstories for Hailey, Prairie, and even some for Chub. From the very first page, you are hooked.
Good enough to finish, not intriguing enough to move on to book 2. They have always been ostracized in society because they have special abilities.

There was a problem adding your email address. The premise of Banished healers and their exploitation is a new one to me, and it made Banished a great suspense and mystery novel.
As the villain from the previous book, mad-scientist Bryce Safian, was left out of commission, this time the role is played by his former employer, a man with vague military connections and an identical plan to create an undead army for sale on the global market.
Having jumped right in after finishing the first book, I can say, the lack of depth from last book has been replaced with a spoiled brat.
But I guess, cliche’s are unavoidable for every YA book. Thanks for telling us about the problem. Now, Hailey is settled in a new state, along with her aunt, Prairie, and her little brother, Chub. And it felt as if the author was trying to wrap things up more than pay attention to the story.
Sixteen-year-old Hailey starts the story trying to hang out with “normal” high school girls whose idea of a fun evening is partying with older guys. Sophie’s writing is still littlefield and lovely, the primary reason this garnered an extra star, and the primary cast of characters are just as wonderful as in the first novel. Then long-lost Aunt Prairie arrives in town, along with two mysterious men who trail Hailey everywhere she goes. After realizing the good and bad sides of her power, Hailey has survived the unimaginable to settle with her aunt, Prairie, and her little brother, Chub, in the suburbs of Milwaukee.
With all that on her plate, you’d think she’d have some shred of light in her life. Hailey figures she’ll never belong—not with the popular kids at school, not with the rejects, not even with her cruel, sickly grandmother, English Choose a language for shopping. Hailey and her little family—Aunt Prairie and adopted brother Chub—are hardly settled into their new lives in Milwaukee before they are discovered and set upon by forces wishing to use their supernatural gifts, as descendants of the Banished, for evil purposes.
Finally Hailey has a loving family, nice clothes, and real friends. There are no discussion topics on this book yet. Showing of 30 reviews. But when one of the girls is injured falling through a glass table after drinking too much, Hailey is unable to hide her true identity as a healer, Unforsaken is a companion book that continues the story of Banishedbut it stands on its own too–the first book would be helpful background, but it’s not necessary to have read it to enjoy the second.
