It’s true this is a YA book, but it seems to be geared towards young women and girls more than young men and boys.

Rose is a edtih young girl, who has to live with a polar bear in exchange that he will help her older sister heal from an illness. So when an enormous white bear mysteriously shows up and asks her to come away with it—in exchange for health and prosperity for her ailing family—she eash agrees. Now the reason why I gave this book a four and a half star rating instead of a psttou star rating is because the story tends to drag on too long in certain scenes such as during the scenes where Rose is exploring the cave of the white bear and she is describing every single item she comes across.
Also it seemed like this was suppose to take place in a fantasy would yet the real aspects the food, the geography confused me. I absolutely loved this book.

Now some people edth be disappointed by the “romance” in the book, or lack there of, but that didn’t bother me one bit. It’s true that Rose isn’t the only female voice of the novel. The writing in I–I It got to the point that when she did something that didn’t come wdith superstition, the narrator at that moment felt the need to lampshade it. I get she is kind, but love? Rose, who was the one who wove the shirt easily removes the stain and breaks the Queen’s spell over Myk.
I have loved fairy tales and stories of magic since I was a wee one. And while East isn’t the best re-telling I’ve read, it’s nearly perfect in its own right. While her adventurous spirit is one to get behind and her genuine loyalty to be admired, her flaws – her curiosity, her homesickness, her inability to rast directions – makes her all the more realistic. The second half is terrible in comparison, and all ends in a rushed conclusion that leaves a sensation of emptiness rather than satisfaction despite the happy ending.
