In the story, a Wall Street lawyer hires a new clerk who, after an initial bout of hard work, refuses to make copy or do any other task required Bartleby, the Scrivener: This adaptation of three Herman Melville stories is a fine example of why I enjoy audiobooks.
Bartleby is a copyist, in essence a human copy machine way before mechanical copy machines. I giggled almost all the time reading about the characters, their absurd appearances and character features.

Academics hail it as escribirnte beginning of modernism, but to readers around the world even those daunted by Moby-Dick Bartleby the Scrivener is simply one of the most absorbing and moving novellas ever.
The conceit of the story has merit and is in similar vein to Wakefield by Nathaniel Hawthorne, both men who resign from their posts as refuse to do as is expected of them by society. The effect upon others varied from drama to humor, from annoyance to regret, from rage to helplessness. Stefan Rudnicki reads the audiobook very, very well.
